Daha önce anlatılan "comparative" konusunda iki nesnenin karşılaştırılması yer almaktaydı.Sıfatların "superlative" halleri ise ikiden fazla nesnenin karşılaştırılması için kullanılmaktadır.
"Comparative" te daha lık anlamı varken, "superlative" te en lik anlamı vardır.

Ör: Tom, George ve Sally üç kardeştir, George Tom"dan daha uzundur ama Sally onların en uzunudur.
Burada Sally"nin en uzun olduğunu söylemek için "superlative yapı kullanmak zorundayız."

1. George: 1.50 cm.; Tom: 1.57 cm.; Sally: 1.65 cm.
---> Sally is the tallest of all.
(Sally hepsinin en uzunudur.)

2. Mount Ağrı is the highest mountain in Turkey.
(Ağrı Dağı Türkiye"de en yüksek dağdır.)

3. Konya is the largest city in Turkey.
(Konya Türkiye"de en geniş şehirdir.)

4. İstanbul is the most crowded city in Turkey.
(İstanbul Türkiye"de en kalabalık şehirdir.)

5. Ronaldinho is the best footballer of the world.
(Ronaldinho dünyanın en iyi futbolcusudur.)

6. My grandfather is the oldest person in the family.
(Dedem ailede en yaşlı kişidir.)

7. Çağla is the most hardworking student in the classroom.
(Çağla sınıfta en çalışkan öğrencidir.)

8. Maths is the most difficult lesson.
(Matematik en zor derstir.)

* Comparative cümlelerde olduğu gibi superlative cümlelerde de sıfatların uzun ve kısa heceli olmasına göre kullanım değişmektedir. Kısa heceli ise -est takısı alır, uzun heceli ise most takısı alır. Bu kuraldan farklı olarak özel bir kural daha vardır. Bazı sıfatlar düzensizdir comparative ve superlative halde bu kural haricinde yazılırlar.
